Over the past few days, Chicago's 9th and 12th Districts have seen a marked increase in armed robberies. Based on a Community Alert from the Chicago Police Department, teams of three to four male perpetrators have been targeting individuals with alarming accuracy. The assailants exhibited black handguns with laser accessories, aggressively demanded the victims' belongings, and escaped in variously colored SUVs.
From October 24th to the 28th, there have been fifteen reported incidents fitting this description. The incidents, which occurred in the early morning and across closely situated neighborhoods, suggest a well-organized group familiar with the territory. This continuous string of incidents indicates a worrying trend affecting the city and its residents.
The community alert identifies the suspected assailants to likely be African-American or Hispanic males, dressed in black and wearing ski masks.
