Yesterday, the Department of Justice (DoJ) declared that a Boston local, Dumari Shakur Scarlett-Dixon, pled guilty to illegally owning firearms while under house arrest. The 22-year-old was a member of Heath Street gang and used Snapchat to post images and videos of firearms, alerting the authorities of his activities, according to Justice.gov.

Scarlett-Dixon made the Snapchat posts while he was under house arrest at his grandmother's residence in Weymouth.

In September of 2021, a search led authorities to find a semi-automatic pistol, dozens of rounds of ammunition and marijuana in Scarlett-Dixon's room.

The identification of Scarlett-Dixon as a gang member and his subsequent investigation were part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative. The OCDETF is a collective effort from several agencies aimed at targeting major drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs and international criminal organizations, according to the OCDETF.

Scarlett-Dixon faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 for unlawful drug use, owning a firearm and ammunition. His sentencing date is January 11, 2024, in the U.S. District Court.
