Today, Patrick Mendoza, co-owner of Monica's Trattoria in Boston's North End, appeared in court, accused of wounding another man outside Modern Pastry, a well-known bakery. The alleged act is the latest in a series of drawn-out feuds with the victim. Mendoza is accused of firing several rounds and stating his intention to kill the man, according to Boston 25 News.

Mendoza was allegedly in a dispute with a man residing above Modern Pastry for years.

On the day of the alleged shooting, Mendoza's probation for a 2019 assault against the same person was planned to end. Mendoza had attended his court hearing for the prior charge on the same day, as reported by WCVB. Despite this, Mendoza does not appear to have a legal record of owning a firearm.

Rocco Giovenello, the victim who was not injured in the alleged shooting, told NewsCenter 5 that he was Mendoza's intended victim and that he had been harassed for years.

The incident also led to a decision by the Boston Licensing Board to temporarily suspend both the food and liquor licenses of Monica's Trattoria, as reported by Boston 25 News. The board later voted to replace Mendoza as manager, permitting Amanda McQueen, the operations manager, to take over.
