Dr. Derrick Todd, previously a noted rheumatologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, has been discharged following allegations of inappropriate breast and pelvic exams as CBS News has reported. The hospital's Chief Medical Officer, Charles Morris, confirmed the receipt of two anonymous complaints, leading to an expedited investigation. Following the preliminary investigation, Dr. Todd was let go from the hospital.
Post Dr. Todd's dismissal, Brigham and Women's Hospital has started contacting his past and existing patients due to the on-going investigation around these severe allegations. To concentrate on patient care, and rebuilding the trust in healthcare, Morris, in a public statement, has expressed deep regret for the damage caused to patients and families.
Before leaving Brigham and Women’s Hospital in July this year, Dr. Todd served as Chief of Clinical Rheumatology at Brigham’s Faulkner Hospital. Following his exit, he has agreed to refrain from medical practice, not only in Massachusetts, but other states as well according to The Boston Globe. This has been confirmed to be a consent rather than an admittance of misconduct. Todd's lawyer continues to assert his client's innocence.
Alarmingly accused, the board responsible for physicians' licensing and disciplining, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, has been informed of Dr. Todd's departure from Brigham and Women's Hospital as claimed by The Boston Globe. As of now, the board has elected to not provide a comment on whether Dr. Todd is being investigated.
