Yesterday, a statue of Jesus Christ on the crucifix at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston's South End suffered vandalism, resulting in its arms being broken off. A person clad in green with a backpack was filmed pulling down the statue, reported CBS News.
There were witnesses who attempted to deter the perpetrator, but were unsuccessful. The police were subsequently called and made an arrest Wednesday morning, as confirmed by Boston 25 News.
The Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the largest church in New England, with its large dimensions, has been left with a mark of disrespect against a significant symbol of faith for many in Boston. Archdiocese of Boston spokesman Terry Donilon remarked, "Sadly, the Cathedral experienced vandalism at the exterior crucifix."
