Brockton Police Detectives and a State Trooper in Massachusetts recently seized more than 500 grams of illegal drugs during a crime suppression patrol downtown. This arrest signifies a noteworthy step in the fight against drug dealing and trafficking. The Brockton Police Department's Facebook post reveals how proactive policing downtown has factored in this significant seizure.
Officers observed a drug transaction near 81 Warren Avenue and continued monitoring the scene. They then followed the participants who later departed in a car. The car was intercepted on Green Street where a suspect named Manuel Goncalves was subsequently arrested.
As stated by the Brockton Police Department, Goncalves is now charged with trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine. Upon conviction, he might face 15-20 years in prison and a potential fine up to half a million dollars. The 26-year-old suspect has also been accused of unlawfully attaching license plates and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and an outstanding warrant for his arrest was found during the investigation.
This enforcement effort underlines the proactive approach of policing aiming to preventing crime instead of merely reacting to it. This strategy contributes to community safety, exemplified by the arrest of Goncalves and seizure of 514 grams of cocaine. The active and rigorous pursuit of criminals before their crimes can escalate further, have the effect of providing relief to communities burdened with the effects of drug trafficking and crime.
