On Monday evening, October 2nd, a car skidded off DuSable Lake Shore Drive, hitting a bike path and colliding with a 54-year-old female cyclist.
Per ABC7 Chicago, the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m., when a 29-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle around the 5400-block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. After hitting the bike path, her vehicle crashed into the cyclist, who suffered from fractures in the arm and leg. Both the driver and victim were promptly taken to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, in good condition. The driver was treated for back and neck injuries.
Underscoring the blaring necessity to address vulnerabilities in our urban spaces, the DuSable Lake Shore Drive incident lends further emphasis to the work required by city officials. As cited by The Chicago Sun Times, while the victim's good condition post-accident is modestly reassuring, the collision signifies inherent risks where roads and bike paths proximate to each other.
