Residents in Chicago's Englewood district are on high alert following a spate of burglaries in early October 2023. The culprits have targeted properties under rehabilitation, breaking in through rear doors or windows according to a Chicago Police report.

This string of burglaries occurred over one week in October on West 59th Street, South Hermitage Avenue, and South Honore Street. There is currently no solid lead on the culprits, however, it's clear they are targeting properties currently undergoing rehabilitation to try and make safer living conditions for the community.

The CPD have advised residents to take precautionary measures which include improving lighting and reinforcing doors and windows. Community members are urged to quickly report any suspicious behavior and, in the event of victimization, to immediately contact law enforcement. Property owners are asked, if existing security surveillance is in place, to save all footage and provide copies to investigators as per the CPD instructions.
