Chicago was rocked by seven shootings on Sunday, October 8, 2023 according to Chicago Police Department report.
The first reported incident happened at approximately 3:55 p.m. on the 0-100 block of W. 71st St. where a 17-year-old male was shot in the arm. The victim survived and was able to take himself to St. Bernard Hospital. Similarly, another 17-year-old male suffered gunshot wounds in the abdomen while standing on the sidewalk in the 7000 block of S. Lafayette at around 4:53 p.m. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital.
At around 5:50 p.m., the third shooting unfolded in the 700 block of E. 133rd Pl., with a 30-year-old male victim sustaining a chest wound. Transporting himself to Ingalls Hospital, the victim was initially reported to be in critical condition. A person of interest was quickly taken into custody and a weapon was found on the scene.
Two almost simultaneous shootings took place at around 9:40 p.m. in the 8600 block of S. Vincennes. Each involved a 21-year-old male victim who suffered gunshot wounds during mugging incidents by two unknown assailants. Both victims were later treated at Christ Hospital.
The night's fifth shooting occurred at around 10:04 p.m. in the 8800 block of S. Dante where a 36-year-old woman, after being choked by a 45-year-old male inside her vehicle, shot him in his right thigh in self-defense. The offender fled the vehicle but was later transported to the University of Chicago Hospital.
The final shooting incident took place at around 11:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of W. Marquette. An unidentified shooter attacking from another vehicle targeted a male passenger in his late 30s, who was then critically injured and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
