In Brighton Park, Chicago, an afternoon altercation led to a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) supervisor being injured by gunfire. The incident took place yesterday, October 3, when a bus and a passenger vehicle were involved in a minor collision near the 3600 block of West 47th Street. No immediate injuries were reported from the bus or car passengers, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A CTA supervisor was called in to assess the situation. Unforeseen occurrences took place when a bullet hit the supervisor's right thigh. A witness, holding a valid concealed carry permit, tried to fire in response at the passing vehicle of the unknown assailant. The link between the shooting and the previous accident remains uncertain, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The injured 55-year-old supervisor was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is in stable condition and CTA spokesperson confirmed he was unintended target in the shootout. The perpetrator remains unidentified and it is unclear if, the witness's return fire was effective.
