Today, the Clinton Fire Department reacted promptly to a gas leak on Jackson and Main streets, leading to the evacuation of 12 city blocks for ensuring the safety of the local residents. Initiated by an inadvertent strike on a gas line by a utility crew, the gas leak warranted immediate checks in surrounding homes, businesses, and sewers by the Fire Department.
This gas leak incident lead to the detection of elevated gas readings in the sewer and buildings, necessitating a request for additional resources to ventilate the impacted area, including the First Christian Church, according to News Channel 20.
A devoted team of Ameren professionals quickly worked to stop the leak and restore the area to safe gas levels. The Clinton Fire Department announced later that gas levels were safely restored, permitting residents to reclaim their homes, as per WAND TV. As a result of evacuation, around 100 individuals were briefly displaced, and guided to use the DeWitt County Courthouse as a safe haven until further clearance for safe return was given.
