
A fire was reported yesterday in a Chicago senior housing high-rise. The Chicago Fire Department detailed that the fire broke out in a single unit at the 14-story Vivian Carter Apartments and was swiftly controlled. There were no injuries, and the fire was limited to one unit.

As reported by CBS News, the fire started in the 12th-floor unit of the senior housing complex situated at 6401 S. Yale Ave., close to the Dan Ryan Expressway. Firefighters were on the scene rapidly to extinguish fire. Any initial smoke was soon cleared with their continued efforts.
Following the incident, a lit cigarette left on a mattress, according to the investigation by the Chicago Fire Department, was determined to be the cause. No injuries were reported.
