
A woman was brutally attacked in Northampton, Massachusetts, when a man stabbed her in the neck with needle nose pliers. The incident took place in full view during daylight hours near Masonic and Center streets, not far from the Center Street police station. The on-duty police captain heard the woman's cries and rushed over, finding her bleeding profusely from her neck wound.
Bystanders reacted quickly, providing immediate aid to the woman and detaining the perpetrator until officers arrived. As NECN reported, the suspect, Russell Scott Mayo, was charged with numerous offenses, including attempted murder, assault and battery with a weapon. Mayo and the victim were known to each other, according to MassLive.
Following the arrest of Mayo, the woman was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment. She remains stable as of Thursday night.
