Earlier today, a dog was fatally shot during a leisurely stroll in the town forest near Sussex Road, Winchester, Massachusetts. NBC Boston reports that the owner, who had been peacefully walking his dog, heard a gunshot around 6:30 pm. He was soon struck by the shocking realization that his pet had been mortally wounded.
Following the first gunshot, a nearby resident claimed to hear a second gunshot around 15 to 20 minutes later. Swiftly informed, the police conducted a thorough search of the area, lasting over two hours. Despite these efforts, the shooter remains at large. Assisted by Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA)'s law enforcement division, the Winchester police are carrying on the investigation, as stated by WCVB.
The Massachusetts State Police have been assisting in to keep the area monitored overnight with a ballistics K9 unit. The scene is still being processed by the Winchester police, and the presence of police patrols as well as mountain bike units remains abundant. Local residents are requested to steer clear of the town forest while the investigation continues.
