Autumn in San Diego County, California, brings with it an annual event known as Hawktober. This month-long celebration is composed of free workshops across 18 parks, with the aim of increasing public knowledge about birds of prey. As part of the county's animal ambassador program, specially-trained rangers bring owls, hawks, and falcons for up-close encounters, according to the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation's Facebook post.

Highlighted by a San Diego County Parks and Recreation article, representatives of various raptor species, such as Turbo the Peregrine Falcon, Penelope the Ferruginous Hawk, Mutaah the Great Horned Owl, and Violet the American Kestrel will be available for meet. All these birds of prey have their unique features which are in terms of size, adaptability, and hunting skills.

Each one of these workshops is designed keeping all age groups in mind and encourages attendants to visit several locations, to learn about these birds' unique characteristics, habitats, diets, hunting methods, and survival tactics. The attendees also gain an insight into how these birds have evolved over time to adapt to the various environments of San Diego.

Also during the event of Hawktober, visitors have the opportunity to collect limited edition trading cards, with each card featuring a different raptor's information and the unique adaptations they use to survive in their habitats.

In addition to this, the virtual series from last year showcasing the owls, hawks, falcons, and other small birds of prey is available for viewing at the San Diego County Parks and Recreation.
