
Earlier today, at approximately 5:10 pm, a severe head-on collision took place on High Street, Ipswich, Massachusetts. The incident involved two cars and resulted in five individuals receiving medical attention. Two of the injured were airlifted to a Boston hospital, and the remaining three were taken to local hospitals by ambulance as detailed by NBC Boston.
The accident occurred between a 2022 Subaru driven by an 83-year-old woman from Maine with two passengers, and a 2007 Hyundai driven by a 54-year-old from Rowley with a 13-year-old passenger. According to Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas, one of the vehicles had crossed the center line, leading to a head-on collision The Local News reported.
Firefighters needed to use hydraulic tools to extract some victims from the wreckage. The Jaws of Life were employed for the Subaru driver and one passenger, who sustained severe injuries not believed to be life-threatening according to WHDH. The father and child in the Hyundai along with the other Subaru passenger, were transported to hospitals, with their injury statuses unconfirmed.
The Ipswich Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the crash. They are exploring whether vehicle malfunctions or human errors such as distracted driving or impaired judgment played a role. These unanswered questions highlight the numerous potential factors underlying car accidents.
