Chicago-based La Catedral Cafe & Restaurant, renowned for its amalgamation of impressive Mexican cuisine and Catholic-themed decor, is opening a new outlet in Douglass Park, North Lawndale, as reported by Eater Chicago. This Little Village locale, owned by chef Ambrocio "Bocho" González, is a local foodie favorite, making its second site highly anticipated.
The second restaurant, born out of the popularity of unique dishes like chilaquiles, crepes, and tortas, will be introduced on Thursday, November 16. It is conveniently nestled within Ogden Commons, a 10-acre development near Douglass Park, providing reprieve for dedicated patrons and restaurant staff from the long queues at the inaugural location, reveals Eater Chicago.
González's humble beginnings as a street vendor in Mexico led him to establish a successful restaurant, which flourished due to his dedication to replicating authentic Mexican tastes in his menu, and positive customer interactions, according to ABC7 Chicago.
A key facet of La Catedral's charm lies in its diverse ingredient use, many of which are treasured elements from González's Guadalajara childhood. A fondness of beans, mainly due to financial circumstances pushing family meals to incorporate beans, has lingering effects on González's current menu offerings, claims Eater Chicago.
At the new Douglass Park outlet, patrons will find unique offerings such as the Burrito La Cathedral, which comprises steak, cheese, jalapeños, salsa, and frijoles. This bean-centric theme will extend to items like steak torta and chilaquiles frijoles, and even be featured in the soup-of-the-day special, according to Eater Chicago.
The promising new location will accommodate its burgeoning patron base with ample seating and stay true to its original inspired design, ensuring a beloved and sacred environment for diners, as per Eater Chicago.
