Earlier today, a high-drama incident unfolded at a Bristol police department parking lot where two college students had sought safety from an inappropriately behaving naked man. A police sergeant was compelled to shoot the perpetrator to ensure his own, as well as the students', safety. The unnerving ordeal began at Colt State Park, where the nude suspect approached the women. He was making unsought hand gestures, as reported by WJAR.
The women, distressed by the man's lewd behaviour, decided to leave the park and soon realized he was behind them. Following advice from a friend, they decided to hurriedly drive to the nearby Bristol police station. Upon arrival, the suspect, now identified as Mark Rinn, caused a collision with the women's vehicle which caused them to exit the car and call for help. A police sergeant, currently not identified, arrived at the scene after hearing their pleas.
The attending sergeant immediately shot twice at Rinn to prevent further harm to himself or the women, Providence Journal reports. The policeman's decisive intervention garnered praise from Chief Kevin M. Lynch. Rinn was still driving at and persistently battering the women's vehicle.
Post-incident, as mentioned in The Boston Globe, Rinn was rushed to a hospital and later arrested, while the college students incurred minor injuries. Ongoing investigation activities are being collaborated by the state police, attorney general's office, and Bristol police department.
