Yesterday, a high-speed pursuit in Rohnert Park, California, involving a Ford Mustang and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) resulted in a major collision, leaving several people injured. The chase began when a CHP patrol tried to stop the Mustang for speeding. However, the driver did not comply and fled on US-101, according to the Santa Rosa CHP Facebook page.
The Sonoma Sheriff's department's helicopter provided aerial support, picking up the pursuit when ground units backed away. The chase ended dramatically on US-101 at Mendocino Avenue when the Mustang driver attempted to pass an SUV using the center median. The crash resulted in significant damage to both vehicles, and the SUV's occupants - two adults and one child, were sent to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Following the collision, the Mustang's driver, an 18-year-old male, was arrested and is now facing several felony charges. He has since been booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
