
On October 30, the historic Nantucket Main Street fountain was severely damaged in a vehicular accident. Security footage released by CBS News Boston shows a pickup truck crashing through the notable landmark.
The perpetrator fled the scene, however, they were apprehended in short order by the police. Michael K. Holdgate, 55, faces charges including operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle according to Boston 25 News.
Per the Nantucket Historical Association, to the town the Main Street fountain was anonymously donated in 1885 and later, it was dedicated to the memory of Lt. Max Wagner in 1932. The Nantucket Garden Club pledged their intent to restore the fountain in a Facebook post.
