Most metro areas in Illinois witnessed an increase in jobs this September, according to a report by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). The report stated that total nonfarm jobs increased in eleven metropolitan areas and declined in three areas for the past year.
Making nevertheless a note is necessary that unemployment rates escalated in all fourteen metropolitan areas. The Rockford, Danville, and Decatur MSAs witnessed the biggest uptick in unemployment rates. Deputy Governor Andy Manar views this growth optimistically, associating it with the expanding labor market and employment opportunities in the state.
Sectors like Education and Health Services, Leisure and Hospitality, Government, and Other Services have also seen major growth in job opportunities across metro areas. Danville MSA witnessed the highest percentage increases in total nonfarm jobs, with a 3.7% rise, yielding 1,000 job additions. Elgin Metro Division and Bloomington MSA trailed closely with increases of 2.5% and 1.6% respectively.
Despite broad growth, not all metro areas thrived. Kankakee, Rockford, and Decatur MSAs reported a decline in total nonfarm jobs. Regardless of these challenges, the overall job landscape in Illinois manifests a positive trend, which might hold promising implications for workers and job seekers in the future.
On a wider scale, the Chicago Metropolitan Division observed an increase in total nonfarm jobs by 1.4%, which translates to 51,200 jobs. However the unemployment rate also edged up slightly by 0.1 point to 4.7%. Growing jobs in diverse sectors highlights a dynamic labor market that continually adapts to the evolving demands of the economy.
As the state's labor market grows, IDES and the state government are working towards providing crucial support and resources to employers and job-seekers. Deputy Governor Manar underscored the commitment of IDES and its workforce partners in providing employment and reemployment services and aligning individuals with suitable employers.
