The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is set to take part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 28. This initiative of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration offers the public a platform to discard their prescription medications safely, with implications for public safety and health, the IPD noted in a Facebook post.
Importantly, safe disposal of medications cuts down the chances of misuse, abuse, and unintentional poisoning. Disposing of unused or expired medications via inappropriate means such as flushing down the toilet or discarding in the trash can cause harm to public health and safety, as well as to the environment.
