Earlier this week, the University of Illinois was interrupted by the sound of gunfire around 10:45 p.m. at Second and Green Street. Police responded promptly while the institution issued an Illini Alert, asking individuals in the vicinity to carefully leave the area as reported by Fox Illinois.
The university community received two additional updates. The second alert, indicating that police had secured the area and reported no further gunfire, was sent out at 11:04 p.m. However, the situation was not resolved, and a third alert from WCIA advised the community to avoid the area while the investigation was on-going.
A final alert was issued at 11:36 p.m., assuring the public that the perpetrator had left the area. With this, students and staff were given the clear to resume their routine activities, as the school deemed it safe as reported by Fox Illinois.
