Yesterday, a robbery attempt at East Bay Firearms in Livermore ended in the tragic death of a young Redwood City man.
The preliminary investigation shows, that the man, aged 28, entered the store in disguising attire with a hammer, aiming to rob a firearm, as stated by the Livermore Police Department. The gun shop owner, defending his store and exercising his Second Amendment rights, shot the suspect fatally, raising questions on where self-defense ends and excessive force initiates.
Responding to the theft attempt, the store owner shot two rounds hitting and unfortunately killing the man. As authorities continue to investigate, the decisions and motivations of both the thief and the store owner are being questioned. In spite of the circumstances, the store owner fully cooperated with the investigation and was not declared a suspect.
While the investigation advances, and with the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau poised to release the deceased person's identity, the incident's implications remain to be determined. The Livermore Police Department encourages anyone with information to contact their anonymous tip line at (925) 371-4790.
