Amid budget and policy considerations, the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) of Massachusetts has appointed Chief People Officer Debra Hilton-Creek as their acting executive director. The move fills a temporary vacancy caused by the parental leave of Executive Director Shawn Collins, due to last until early December 2023, as noted by NBC Boston. Hilton-Creek's 25 years of management and organizational leadership experience brings a refreshing focus on people, culture, and effective organizational operations to the commission.

Prior to joining CCC, Hilton-Creek established herself at Max HR Consulting Services, where she led the creation and execution of corporate organizational development initiatives, policies, and guidelines, according to Cannabis Law Report. She also held notable roles, such as human resources director for the town of Hopkinton and chief human resources officer at the Codman Square Health Center.

Her background not only attests to expertise in the field of human resources but also to her commitment to this profession. In a 2013 cable access show in Hopkinton, she highlighted her Army tenure and love for human resources, factors that drove her to pursue a master's degree in the field and apply her skills actively across various roles, as per NBC Boston's coverage.

Anticipating the challenges that come with this leadership role, Hilton-Creek said, "Am I somewhat scared? Of course. Worried? No, because I have an exceptional team. As I interact with the team daily, it reminds me of our work's importance as an agency. So, although I'm a tad scared, I have no doubts about getting through these next few months with a cooperative effort," according to Cannabis Law Report.
