Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine has permanently revoked the license of Frederick P. Barbetta, a Charlestown resident, due to improper storage of fireworks. The decision was announced in an official press release in accordance with Department of Fire Services.
Last year, on November 17, 2022, the Boston Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit and the Boston Police Department's Bomb Squad found 58 boxes and two trash bags of fireworks in a van and minivan parked in a residential area of Charlestown. According to Mass.gov, the vehicles and fireworks posed a potential threat for a destructive fire or explosion.
The Boston Fire Department immediately notified the Department of Fire Services (DFS) of suspected Fire Code violations. Barbetta's hearing with DFS was rescheduled from June to October.
The State Fire Marshal's office has informed the state's fire chiefs about the permanent revocation of Barbetta's Fireworks Certificate of Competency #FW-004459. Anyone aware of regulated work being conducted under that certificate is asked to notify the DFS Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit at 978-567-3375.
