Yesterday, the Healey-Driscoll Administration in Massachusetts unveiled a nursing community college financial aid scholarship program, covering the 100% tuition fees of enrolled students. This initiative emphasizes the importance of a skilled nursing workforce, especially in light of recent health crises, and focuses on harnessing talent for improved community health and economic security across the state.
Dedicated to making education and career pathways accessible and affordable for nursing students, this scholarship coincides with the high growth forecast of nurse practitioners, predicted as the third STEM occupation with the highest growth from 2020 to 2030 by the Massachusetts Department of Economic Research.
The pivotal role played by nurses during the pandemic has shed light on a need for an efficient nursing workforce. Chronology indicates that grip on this healthcare workforce shortage is currently being tightened in Massachusetts according to Executive Office of Education.
Governor Maura Healey suggests that these scholarships along with initiatives like the MassReconnect program can break the cycle of poverty, opening doors to quality education and worthwhile careers.
