Fall has arrived, bringing with it the leaf-changing colors of the season. To aid residents in managing the leaf fall, Naperville is offering a curbside leaf collection program starting October 16th. This annual program will run in three collection cycles throughout the fall season, offering an efficient and eco-friendly solution for leaf disposal as stated in the City of Naperville's announcement.
The City of Naperville has, over the years, emphasized responsible and eco-friendly waste disposal. The leaf collection program, along with the bagged leaf collection initiative starting November 6th, exemplifies the City's commitment to environmental sustainability.
Although the program is free and complements the other disposal methods, participating residents must take certain precautions. These include avoiding storm drains while raking leaves to prevent blockages and floods, and careful sorting of yard waste to avoid damaging collection equipment according to the City's guidelines.
Inclement weather can, however, affect the collection schedule. Changes due to disruptions from rain, snow, or freezing temperatures are communicated through Naper Notify, the City's notification system. This interactive map and notification system provides real-time updates on the progress of collections as stated by the City.
The City offers another leaf disposal alternative through the free bagged leaf and yard waste collection program. This special service runs from November 6th to December 15th and allows residents to dispose of leaves and yard waste without a sticker in marked containers during these dates.
Also provided by the City are environmentally friendly methods to utilize fallen leaves. Recommendations include mulching and composting, which improves soil quality and supports wildlife as per the City's guidelines. Furthermore, the use of home lawnmowers as mulching devices is suggested, in addition to incorporating shredded leaves into our garden soils or compost bins for organic lawn care.
