Yesterday, Gavin Newsom signed the Assembly Bill 785. Sponsored by Mayor Karen Bass and authored by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, this legislation aims to tackle the serious homelessness crisis in Los Angeles and California at large. The bill accelerates the building of affordable housing and related facilities by extending CEQA exemptions for the City and unincorporated areas of the County of Los Angeles until 2030, according to the press release of the City of LA.
"Today marks a significant step forward in our urgent quest to confront the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles," Bass said, describing the shared effort between all levels of government. Bass has facilitated the quick creation of more than 17,000 housing units for the unhoused population in Los Angeles throughout her term.
