Earlier today, a shocking Hamas attack in Israel endangered individuals worldwide, sparking global concern. However, Northeastern University's global security team was able to swiftly secure the safety of its three students in Israel, CBS News reported.

The students, named Jesse Ruigomez and Keren Doherty, for completion of co-operative programs (co-ops) in Tel Aviv, found themselves in the middle of the attack. Meanwhile, Joshua Einhorn, visiting family in Jerusalem for the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah was studying in Greece before the crisis according to Northeastern News. Amid this turmoil, they found respite in their university's unrelenting efforts.

Ruigomez and Doherty were escorted to Ben Gurion Airport, approximately 40 miles from Gaza for safely fleeing Israel. Ruigomez was flown to Madrid, Spain and Doherty was airlifted to Lisbon, Portugal as stated by Northeastern News. Einhorn had pre-existing travel plans that facilitated her safe return to Greece a day later.

Northeastern University's Global Safety and Support Network, which mandates students and faculty's registration for traveling abroad, has shown its effectiveness during this emergency. Khushal Safi, Northeastern's director of global security, highlighted the importance of this registration process for quick communication and assistance in a crisis during an interview with Northeastern News.

Doherty, who seeked shelter near her Tel Aviv apartment during the attack, expressed her gratitude for the university's high level of outreach. Timely calls and messages from her co-op coordinator, family, and university authorities provided much-needed reassurance as per Northeastern News.
