The Oakland Police Department (OPD) issued an advisory on October 4, 2023, urging public assistance in locating at-risk missing individual, Awot Tara, who is in urgent need of essential medication.
Awot Tara has been missing since October 2nd and was last sighted in the 300 block of 45th Street. He was seen wearing a black zip-up hoodie, an orange shirt, blue jeans, and black and white sneakers. He is a 27-year-old Eritrean male, approximately 5'7" and weighs around 170 pounds. While he is reported to be in good physical condition, he is diagnosed with schizophrenia, which escalates the concern around his current situation.
An air of urgency in the search for Tara, as his well-being is heavily dependent on his access to necessary medication. The family of the missing man and the OPD urge for the community to be on lookout for Tara.
The OPD appeals to anyone with possible knowledge of Tara's location to contact their Missing Persons' Unit at 510-238-3641. The primary goal is to quickly facilitate Tara's reunion with his family and return him to his crucial medical regimen.
