Pouring $100 million in private funding, SiFi Networks is bringing high-speed internet to Palmdale through the Palmdale FiberCity® project, a venture that is all set to impact 50,000 households, businesses and institutions, as confirmed by the City of Palmdale.

The Palmdale FiberCity® endeavor promises internet speeds reaching an impressive 10 Gbps, which brings it into competition with the country's top residential speeds. The Open Access model, a setup seen around the U.S. and Europe, will be employed to facilitate multiple service providers to share the fiber infrastructure for a range of services—including, unusual use of comma, internet and wireless. This model stands to benefit consumers by encouraging competitive pricing and enhanced connectivity.

Palmdale residents need not worry about the impact of this project on their taxes. SiFi Networks is shouldering the whole construction bill, ensuring taxpayers face no financial risks. The company's VP of Government Affairs and Business Development, Shawn Parker, called it a joint "commitment...to bridge the digital divide", praising cities staff for their efforts towards making the project reality.

Fiber conduit for the project will to be laid in shallow trenches at the curb line using Pramira's microtrenching machine—the construction partner of SiFi Networks. Parking notifications and door hangers will inform the public of construction in their neighbourhoods. Accessing the fiber network will be possible for properties in a phased manner, neighborhood by neighborhood.

If you're a resident or business owner in Palmdale and the Palmdale FiberCity® excites you, head over to the project's website to register interest or get answers to any related queries. Following their social media channels will keep you updated on construction progress and upcoming events.
