Yesterday the City of Palmdale announced a new initiative to honor local military heroes. The Hometown Heroes Military Banner Program is seeking nominations for individuals who have served our country with commendable courage and also have a direct link to the City of Palmdale.

This tribute is extended to active, honorably discharged, or retired personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces who served during any war from World War I onwards. To become eligible for nomination, candidates must be current or former inhabitants of Palmdale, or be immediate family members of such residents. The city is primarily interested in individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to defending our nation and its founding principles.

The Hometown Heroes banners, featuring photos, names, and specific service information, will be displayed across the city at Rancho Vista Blvd. and 10th Street West from the Veterans Day until the New Year's Day. To enable everyone to participate, the City of Palmdale has decided to offer this program at no cost. At the end of the display period, it also plans to present the banners to the displayed veterans or their families.

To quickly approach, the deadline for submissions has been set for October 20, at 5 PM. City officials urge every eligible resident to participate in this landmark initiative. The responsibility of nominating will be entrusted to a group of veterans to ensure a fair and impartial selection process.

Understanding the financial toll this could potentially take on the program, the Hometown Heroes Military Banner initiative is looking for sponsors. Deputy City Manager Nardy Lopez is the designated point of contact for parties interested in sponsoring the program.

The purpose of this program is to create a sense of gratitude and honor towards our veterans who have so selflessly served our country. Despite the challenges that may arise due to the potentially conflicted perspectives about the military's role in society, the City of Palmdale is dedicated to successfully fulfill this initiative.
