On October 17, an incident occurred at a Trader Joe's grocery store in Palo Alto. A suspect brandishing an unregistered polymer handgun known as a "ghost gun," entered the store and demanded that an employee contact the police.
Palo Alto Police Department news release reports that the suspect was promptly arrested, with officers recovering the firearm at the scene, avoiding any injury.
An increase in ghost gun circulation has been observed in recent years. As these guns are composed of personally bought components or constructed from DIY kits, they lack serial numbers, making them undetectable by regular tracking systems.
The suspect in the Palo Alto case demanded medical attention for narcotic use during the police investigation.
