According to WCVB, the chain of incidents started around 5:37 a.m. with the report of an idling, unoccupied vehicle on Main Street. The police found the car had been stolen from Melrose. The vehicle promptly returned to its owner.

Then, at approximately 8:20 a.m., another vehicle was reported stolen from Spring Street, later located in Somerville and restored to its owner, as per NBC Boston. An additional vehicle theft was reported at 10:14 a.m. from Prospect Street, with the vehicle still missing as of date.

Alongside the thefts probe, Reading Police began to address reports about vehicle break-ins. According to WCVB, the incidents were concentrated around Locust Street, Middlesex Avenue, Condor Road, and Copeland Road. Predominantly, unlocked vehicles were the targets of these intrusions, highlighting the risks associated with leaving cars unsecured.

In light of these incidents, Reading Police have issued safety recommendations for the residents, encouraging them to always lock their cars, remove keys, and close all windows and sunroofs. They also recommended conducting routine checks for vehicles' security every evening at 9 p.m. and removing valuable items from the cars.

Police Chief David Clark has stressed on the community's collective vigilance and asked residents "to ensure their cars are properly locked and all valuables removed before leaving their vehicles." As the investigation into the auto thefts and break-ins continues, authorities urge residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
