On October 30, Salem's Haunted Happenings celebration took a grim turn when a woman was struck and dragged by an alleged drunk driver Boston.com reports.
Around 7 p.m. Saturday at 318 Essex St, Salem Police Department responded to the location where a 35-year-old woman had been hit and dragged under a Toyota RAV4. Witnesses at the scene helped get the woman out from underneath the vehicle, preventing further injuries according to Boston25 News.
Authorities arrested the driver, 43-year-old Vasiliy Orlov from Salem, who faces various charges, including operating under the influence of liquor and reckless driving as stated by Boston.com. Meanwhile, the victim, suffering severe injuries, was moved from Salem Hospital to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment.
