Yesterday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department received a $75,000 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). This support is intended to reduce alcohol-related incidents in communities under the department's jurisdiction, as per the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

It is part of the wider ABC Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program which has seen almost 50 local law enforcement agencies gain grants for enforcing alcohol-related regulations.

The APP program began in 1995 and has worked to strengthen the bond between ABC and local law enforcement. ABC agents provide expert knowledge on alcohol beverage laws to better tackle alcohol-related incidents within communities.

The program encourages the prevention of underage drinking and also ensures businesses face consequences for breaking the law.

Funds from the grant will be used to cut alcohol sales to minors and intoxicated patrons. It will also be used for combating illegal alcohol solicitations and other crimes such as illegal drug sales and possessions.

So far, the APP Program has contributed more than $40 million to local law enforcement agencies toward reducing alcohol-related crime.
