The Santa Clarita community is dealing with a bus driver strike, affecting both students and parents. To provide a temporary solution, Santa Clarita Transit announced earlier today that it secured a contract with Transit Systems to provide limited, free bus service.
The offered service will cover select local and school tripper routes, including but not limited to Route 5/6, Route 12, and Route 627. The buses will operate outside their usual schedules, and wait times can exceed between an hour to an hour and a half. Also, city buses will not be utilized, hence, neither Bus Finder nor other tracking services will be available at this time.
The Hart District is henceforth actively addressing service gaps for students potentially impacted by the strike, encouraging families who depend on Santa Clarita Transit services to consider other transportation alternatives, ensuring students reach school and return home safely as per Hart District.
In their joint efforts, the city and the Hart District have developed alternative transportation options to support students and families whose regular Santa Clarita bus routes cater to a large number of students. These alternative measures are dependent on third-party vendors, and bus routes may be subject to daily changes due to vendor bus availability, as posted on Hart District google site.
While the situation remains uncertain, affected families are urged to stay informed and monitor updates to adopt necessary changes. An updated alternative student transit routes list has been issued, detailing operating and discontinued routes during the Santa Clarita Transit bus driver strike, which should be checked regularly for any route alterations.
