The Croteau family suffered a gut-wrenching loss yet again as Stephanie Croteau, a mother of three, died in a car accident earlier today, in Springfield. This comes on the heels of a glaring tragedy in August where her 10-year-old daughter Aubrianna, and mother, Kim Fairbanks, were victims of a murder-suicide shooting at their residence, a tragedy also reported by MassLive.
The shocking incident involved their upstairs neighbor, Victor Nieves, who fatally shot Aubrianna, Kim, and the family dog before committing suicide. Stephanie Croteau's other daughter was also injured while protecting her siblings. However, her 5-year-old son managed to live through the horrifying ordeal unscathed, as MassLive details.
Stephanie expressed her profound grief on social media along with expressing gratitude for the vast support she received from the community. But in a twisted twist of fate, she succumbed in a single-car accident earlier today, leaving her remaining two children behind, potentially retraumatizing them with the sudden loss of their mother.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Francena Brown, Executive Director for Families Against Violence, have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. The Mayor stated, "Our heartfelt sympathy and words of encouragement go out to the family, especially the children," a statement reported by WWLP.
