On Friday, October 20, the South San Francisco Police Department and fire personnel coordinated a response to a brush fire, leading to the arrest of a suspected arsonist. This resulted from the collaborative actions of both branches of public service. The South San Francisco Police Department reported the capture of an unhoused 34-year-old male involved in the fire.
The fire, which had spread to a nearby residence on Duvall Drive, was contained by the South San Francisco Fire Department. Upon a witness's report, the Colma Police Department was able to arrest the man who was spotted initiating the fire. Alongside a lighter, witness testimonies were used to confirm the identified arsonist.
The arrest of the suspect led to the discovery of his involvement in at least two other arson cases in South San Francisco. As of now, an investigation is ongoing to determine the suspect's involvement in other unidentified or unreported incidents.
