In Chelsea, Massachusetts, a concerning incident occurred at the Shore Educational Collaborative school. A 14-year-old student reportedly threatened to "shoot everyone up." NBC Boston reports that the student, who remains unnamed due to his age, made the threat following a physical altercation with a fellow student.
The young man instigated a physical altercation by attacking another student with a hanger on October 16. Upon intervention by school authorities, he threatened to come back with a gun and shoot everyone, according to Boston.com. This matter led to his urgent removal from the school, pending a disciplinary hearing. Over the next day, the situation took a turn for the worse.
The student posted a threatening message on social media on October 17, including images of himself with firearms and a clear indication that he was heading toward the school threatening retaliation. As a result of this alarming situation, some students chose to not attend classes, as reported by NBC Boston.
The local law enforcement professionally handled the situation, and the teenager was arraigned at the Boston Juvenile Court on October 23. District Attorney of Suffolk County, Kevin Hayden expressed serious concerns about the increasing frequency of school violence, which he said should be treated with utmost seriousness, according to CBS News Boston.
The judge set a bail of $750, along with home confinement and GPS monitoring terms. He was permitted to attend an alternative school, provided he maintains distance from Shore Educational Collaborative and desists from using social media platforms, according to Boston.com.
