Yesterday, a 19-year-old driver lost control of his work truck and crashed into an unoccupied building at the corner of Floyd Street and Boston Road in Billerica, Massachusetts.

The driver was crossing the intersection when the accident occurred, as per NBC Boston. The accident occurred at the unoccupied and up-for-sale Mackenzie Mobile Electronics building, averting potential casualties.

Despite the severity of the accident, the driver extricated himself and was hospitalized with not life-threatening injuries at Lahey Hospital. The crashed vehicle belonged to Newport Construction, and the accident happened around 7:30 p.m.

In a twist of events, a blue pickup truck at the crash scene collided with a police cruiser, leading to the pickup driver’s immediate arrest, according to WCVB.

Emergency crews, wary of a potential building collapse, had to meticulously remove to the truck from the accident site. Billerica Fire Department Captain Jim Miner told NBC Boston that the building’s front and right side posed significant collapse risks, necessitating precautionary shoring up of the structure.

The truck appears to have simply missed the intersection, underscoring how disaster can strike even under ordinary circumstances.
