Three suspects were apprehended near Northeastern Illinois University in North Park yesterday evening, following an incident where shots were fired. The arrest, which happened around 8:45 p.m., evolved into a police chase that culminated when the suspects crashed their vehicle into a cemetery fence on the 5100 block of North Central Park Avenue then attempted to flee the scene, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
In response to quickly identified threat, Northeastern Illinois University Police issued an emergency notification to those near the Foster Access Road. As a result, the university was briefly put on lockdown, as noted by ABC7 Chicago.
One silver lining from this incident is that multiple firearms were recovered and no injuries were reported. In response to the event, the university thanked community members for their cooperation and compliance with lockdown protocols as shared in a university statement.
