A 38-year-old man died in a car accident earlier today, in the Lower West Side near Pilsen. The vehicle collided with a viaduct pillar around 2 a.m., according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The collision took place in the 1700 block of South Western Avenue, where the victim suffered severe trauma. He was immediately transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, there he was pronounced dead. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no further injuries were reported, according to ABC7 Chicago. The victim's name has not been released and his family's privacy is being respected.
The northbound #49 Western Avenue buses had to be rerouted due to the incident, causing inconvenience for local commuters.
Conditions leading up to the fatal crash are being investigated thoroughly by police, according the Chicago Sun-Times.
