Yesterday, two seasoned divers tragically perished whilst testing equipment just off Front Beach, Rockport, Massachusetts. Local and state police have now joined forces with the Coast Guard to uncover the causes of these deaths.
Details of the incident emerged when a body was found washed up on Front Beach, Rockport, prompting an immediate search for the second diver who was later found deceased. Their identities are currently undisclosed. A report by Boston25 News revealed that one of the divers, a 70-year-old man, was found wearing full diving gear.
According to an interview with WHDH, a local woman identified the deceased divers as her father and uncle, stating they were testing their gear ahead of an upcoming trip. Local resident Peter Van Demark noted Rockport's popularity as a diving destination.
The case is now under full investigation, with the involvement of the Rockport Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and the Coast Guard. The Research Vessel Ocean Reporter also contributed efforts in the search and recovery operation. The case is now under the purview of the Essex County District Attorney's office, with key details yet to be disclosed.
