Yesterday, two state trooper cruisers in Methuen, Massachusetts, were hit by a third vehicle while they dealt with a separate crash. Both cruisers were empty during the incident and no first responders were injured. The driver of the offending vehicle was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later cited for the crash, reports NBC Boston.
Incidents like to quickly focus public attention on the risks associated with first responder work, including that of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics. Ensuring the safety of these professionals who risk their lives daily in service to their communities can be significantly increased by public observance of established safety protocols such as Massachusetts' "Slow Down and Move Over" law.
