Yesterday, contractors renovating an unoccupied house on Purchase Street, Newburyport, Massachusetts came across four objects resembling pipe bombs NBC Boston reported.
The contractors had alerted Newburyport police and fire department expressing concerns about a box holding what seemed to be four pipe bombs to them. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was swiftly summoned to ensure the area's safety according to AP News. The bomb squad, after examining the items via x-ray, could not determine if these devices were actual explosives or mere replicas.
The property owner, unsighted about the box's existence, naturally, adds to the confusion Boston.com reported. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad cleared these items to a safe space in an isolated area off Colby Farm Road, for controlled demolition.
With the investigation in full swing, officials have announced no immediate public danger. They have acted promptly, avoiding potential harm to the neighborhood area.
