A white BMW X5 SUV was stolen from a parking lot at the Olive Garden on Tobias Boland Way on October 8th, 2023. On October 12th, two encounters involving the white SUV transpired in which individuals were approached and asked to give money or hop into the car. The prospective victims were able to run away in both instances and find refuge.
After a tip was received, the WPD officers found the stolen SUV close by South High School, where it was believed to be parked by a student for several days. A sixteen-year-old was detained when asking the plainclothes officers about his towed SUV as the police report states. He was later arrested under the accusation of Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
While police have recovered the stolen SUV and have a suspect in custody, they have not yet established a definite link between the teenager and the alleged abduction attempts.
