Emerging from its roots as a homebrew project in a basement in 2015, Widowmaker Brewing has experienced considerable growth, moving from a 7-barrel brewhouse to a 15-barrel one with a 405 barrel fermentation capacity. After the success of its Braintree taproom, Widowmaker is branching out towards Brighton, marking its first established presence in Boston.
With operations launched on Wednesday and a grand opening scheduled for Saturday, the Widowmaker Taproom & Kitchen is situated on North Beacon Street. This location serves as an extension to the Widowmaker brewery in Braintree, featuring distinct food offerings from Bone and Bread, a "farm to street food" cuisine artisan. Widowmaker's co-founder, Ryan Lavery, said that moving into the former Brato Brewhouse and Kitchen space in the musical Allston-Brighton neighborhood felt like a natural fit, as reported by Boston.com.
The new Widowmaker location not only showcases popular beers like Blue Comet IPA, but also extraordinary beverages featuring blood orange, raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate flavors alongside additions of vanilla and lactose in brews like the Splatterhaus. The Graveroller, a hard seltzer series, is another brew being to produce onsite. Guests get to savor a variety of toothsome dishes like brewery burgers, sandwiches, and Korean street corn dogs prepared by Bone and Bread. The food offerings extend to ramen as well, flaunting dishes like chili garlic crisp noodles and grilled cheese-tomato soup ramen.
In design, the Widowmaker Brighton location takes on resemblance to a gothic ski lodge, making it a timely Halloween-themed destination. The venue holds a capacity of 146 guests when the patio is open. Options for seating are varied to cater to guests preferring a drink-only experience. Aesthetic elements include a faux fireplace, animal skulls, glowing electric candles, brilliant windows, and an array of science fiction books dispersed across the venue. Enhancing the venue's eclectic vibe is a mural by local tattoo artist Johnny Garlin.
The grand opening is not the only big event in the Widowmaker new location's schedule. Although exact plans are still in the pipeline, the brewery might host "vinyl nights" allowing a DJ to entertain with rock records. A notable collaboration is also underway with Rolling Releaf, a cannabis delivery service, leading to a unique drink called Welcome To Grassachusetts, set to be unveiled at a release party in early November, according to Boston.com
From its humble beginnings as a basement homebrewing project, Widowmaker Brewing's Brighton expansion represents a significant milestone. With its unique and welcoming environment, the brewery is poised, an integral part of a community with which it shares longstanding ties. The Brighton community and tourists can anticipate engaging with Widowmaker in a new setting, enjoying delicious dishes, refreshing sips, and lively events.
