Recently, a citizen of Windsor narrowly avoided a carjacking at gunpoint. The Windsor County Sheriff's Office reported that on October 19th, the victim had offered a ride to the suspect, who then tried to forcibly take control of the vehicle.
The man, identified as Mathew Randy Slayden, a 24-year-old from Las Vegas, brandished a stolen firearm and demanded that the victim leave the car and his cellphone behind. The suspect, now in police custody, is facing multiple charges that highlight increasing concerns about armed robberies and illegal possession of firearms.
Upon to investigate, Slayden was found with a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun and narcotics. He is being charged with attempted carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded stolen firearm, as well as possession of a controlled substance while armed, with bail set at $100,000.
